PAGE NOTES
"Spirits of the Air..." as Tehura flies over the Farallon Islands, 30 miles west of San Francisco, outward bound into mythic space, she's quoting The Little Mermaid--the real one, Hans Christian Andersen’s more tragic version, who loses sea, land, and prince... but wins a soul. His tale was autobiographical, though with genders switched; he was the Mermaid. He fell for a famous singer, Jenny Lind, but it wasn't mutual; he was a gawky, ugly guy with a hick accent. No tail or scales--but to respectable Swedes of that stuffy time, he might as well have.
