Shadows
Not just dreams about physical shadows, though there are some here. Dreams with shadow figures in Jung's sense (well, Jung publicized the term, but the concept is as old as shamanism!): figures composed of rejected aspects of the dreamer, as if your acknowledged self were casting a shadow, which it then labels "not me"--or stronger names! If you fear or loathe a dreamfigure on sight, before s/he's done anything to justify it, it may be a Shadow. Most dreamers avoid them, since Shadows are usually sides of us we don't like. But not always--some Shadows are what we think is unattainable, is beyond our talents, is too GOOD to be true... for more on this see the dream Shadows Admirable.
Naturally, Shadows resent being disowned and rejected, so they may harass, sabotage, even stalk the dreamer until acknowledged and given elbow room in your life for their neglected needs... Like I said, old as shamanism.
Not all these dreams are meetings with Shadows--in many, we get to observe other people facing Shadows. In a few we can even observe irrational phobias triggered by shadow entities in a laboratory setting (Laced with Terror, Black Magic or Humanity's Greatest Fear), watch the dreamer become a Shadow (Reverse My Armor) or even dream from the Shadow's viewpoint and see how the so-called "conscious" looks to it (Dating Demon). Also on this list are several dreams that openly discuss the concept of the Shadow (Ambassador of Dreams, The Shadow of Freud). It's surprising what dreams think of the waking world's notions about them! Like a scriptwriter who reads the reviews.
