Witnesses for the Prosecution
Dreamed c.1984 by Rita Wolff
EDITOR'S NOTE
Who are the witnesses for the prosecution? The palm trees, the pyramids? Is it ancient or modern Egypt on trial? "They just can't build 'em like they used to" or "monuments to personal vanity versus human-scaled city"? And was either critique inherent in the dream, or is this just a clever title--Wolff's waking mind imposing on the dream a judgment on Dynastic or Islamic Egypt that the dream never meant?
We can't find out. Maddeningly, the book showcasing her dream paintings omits the dreams that the paintings illustrate.
