Commute
Dreamed before 1961 by a Massachusetts woman, reported to the Rhine Institute
A woman in Massachusetts writes that on numerous occasions she and her husband each had "known" the thought of the other:
We live twenty-five miles from the city and my husband often commutes by train. It costs a quarter to make a phone call to tell me which train to meet. He is in the habit of taking the six o'clock but on occasions can make the five-thirty.So I said to him one day, "Just thought-wave to me and I'll pick it up and meet you." We've been doing it for many months now and his pleased smile when he sees me there meeting the early one is reward enough, to say nothing of the fact that we save many phone calls.
There is no pattern to the times he takes one train or the other. He rarely comes on the early one. However, it is very seldom I have missed when he sends the message. The few times I did were when I was very tired or when my mind was engrossed with other people. Still, on occasion I have broken away from someone and told them I had to go as my husband was coming on the early train.
The only other times when I miss are those when I try to apply logic, disregarding the sense which is more infallible than the logic. For instance, the other evening it was pouring, really coming down in torrents. I was sitting on the couch when suddenly I was told to meet the five-thirty. I almost started to obey. Then I said to myself, on such a night as this he wouldn't come early without phoning first because he could be drenched. Also, he said this morning he has too many appointments to be able to get the early train. So I sat down again, putting my coat aside to wait for the six o'clock. Then he phoned from the station to say why didn't I meet him, for he thought-waved like mad. So I learn to obey without question, not trying to use logic, for logic has nothing to do with it.
EDITOR'S NOTES
I found this ESP account a cozy delight. So trivial, so routine! So many ESP accounts are about death; here it's to save a quarter. Now I can quit feeling guilty for letting my psychic dreams smooth all those little annoyances... (No, I'm not joking. It works. If you can tune out that big, stupid siren of conventionalism. It calls itself logic, of course, but...)
