Brush Crash!
Dreamed 1984/10/4 by Wayan
I'm in the San Andreas Rift where I grew up--lakes and canyons round the San Andreas Fault--driving in a road race! My chief rival, a professional, is confident I can't possibly keep up without elaborate gear pro drivers like him add to their cars--like an oxygen helmet to prevent blackouts from G forces. What are we, fighter pilots?
I'm proving him wrong. Stick to him like glue.
Trying to lose me, he takes a curve too fast by Crystal Springs Lake, and rolls. He set the pace and I go nearly as fast into the turn and run off the road too, though I'm warned and turn into the skid and don't crash, just bounce down a slope, through red heather and green bracken, to stop by the water's edge.
Though I'm rattled, I'll gain on him in the long run: my car's nearly undamaged, and will be back on the road well before his--if his ever will.
NEXT NIGHT
I watch The Rockford Files. Rockford's investigating demolition derby drivers with something to hide. A lot, apparently--they knock Rockford out, stick him in a car, roll him off a hill road into a canyon. His death will look like an accident.
Oops! Steep canyon slope, but brush slows the car. Rockford lives... and exposes them.
DECADES LATER
When I first built the World Dream Bank I was biased toward epic, exotic dreams--I favored fully developed stories showing dreamwork was more magical, beautiful and fun than people think.
But now I'm going through old journals and finding a lot of apparently predictive & telepathic dreams like this--short, seemingly ordinary, poorly plotted (sitting in a brush pile? what a weak ending!) but... evidence that the waking world is rather more magical than people think. Too.
