The Baby
Dreamed 1991/3/20 by Gloria Reiser
I'm expecting a baby. In the dream my age keeps coming up and it comes through as 43, though in reality I am 44 and would turn 45 before the baby came. I corrcct the age once, but it reverts back to 43.
At first I am thinking about an abortion--plain set on getting one, yet not able to make connections--not able to find a clinic I can get into right away. The baby is due in October and I'm getting concerned I'm almost out of time for the abortion. Not per clinic standards, but per my own. Feel I have only a couple of weeks and it will be too late. (In waking life I'm pretty much anti-abortion, because I feel it to be the taking of life, and therefore should only be done if health or sanity of mother is at stake.)
Then I start thinking about the baby and wondering what she (though I feel it is a he) would be like. Start thinking about first steps and buying cute little baby clothes. Also think about being tied down till I'm in my 60s. I had been looking forward to traveling without consideration of school schedules or baby sitters and on my own, without children. Maybe I'll never have that now? Very torn two ways. But I remember I'll have plenty of baby sitters (my other children--teens and older). Perhaps I could leave the baby with them when I travel. I wonder if I'm too old to take the weeks of lost sleep a baby brings.
Now the dream shifts...and it's Kathryn (one of my oldest son's ex-girlfriends) who is pregnant and my son is the father. There is a phone conversation in which her father is being rather negative and demanding that it be handled as he sees fit. I set him straight, telling him the decisions are Kathryn's. She and Derik will make them.
The dream shifts again... It's Tiffany (my daughter) who is pregnant--seemingly by a high school friend. He is being very supportive.
Maybe not your standard nightmare, but I was glad to wake up from this one!
